Advantages of Education

Education involves teaching academic subjects using two different languages. At Maple Bear, students learn subjects in either their native language or a second language, depending on the subject and grade level.

Unlike traditional language programs that focus mainly on memorizing vocabulary, Maple Bear integrates language learning into everyday classroom instruction. This allows students to naturally develop language skills while learning academic subjects.

Children begin their second-language journey as early as preschool through an immersive learning approach based on Canadian educational methods and best practices.

In the past, some believed that learning two languages simultaneously could confuse children. However, extensive research—much of it conducted in Canada shows that bilingual education actually offers lifelong cognitive and developmental advantages.

Why Choose a Canadian Education?

Canada’s education system consistently ranks among the best in the world. Every three years, PISA (Programme for International Student Assessment) measures 15-year-olds’ ability to use their reading, mathematics and science knowledge to meet real-life challenges.

Since PISA’s inception in 2000, Canada has consistently ranked in the top 10 in all three domains among all participating OECD countries. The strength of the Canadian education system provides MapleBear parents with trust that our curriculum maintains the highest standard of quality.

When is the best time to start?

The research is clear: the younger, the better. Up to the age of 7, children can learn a new language more effortlessly. As development progresses, this window of opportunity begins to close. Studies show children who learn a language before adolescence are much more likely to have native-like pronunciation.

Immersion vs Traditional Learning

Bilingual immersion methodology is used in Maple Bear schools to develop competence in languages. This means that children learn to listen, speak, read, and write in both English and French as well as their respective native languages by surrounding them with conversation and instruction in these languages. Our students are immersed in English, plus a specially developed language curriculum that strongly emphasizes bilingual language and literacy.
